Il Nido (the Nest) is a small house in the centre of Anghiari. It is approximately 600 years old, but has been completely rebuilt inside, adding conveniences while preserving its historic character.
Il Nido is built within the Medieval walls of Anghiari, a few short blocks from the central piazza. But it might take quite a long time to reach the piazza if you are inclined to stop to peek into one of the country’s leading schools of furniture and art restoration, or visit the town’s museum, or be unable to resist the attractions of the bakery and other food sellers, not to mention 3 of the best restaurants in town... and that’s all within a 3 minute walk if you can do it without stopping. Once in the piazza you are now at the door of arguably the best pizzeria in Italy!
Cosy Il Nido (the nest) is 2½ stories high, with windows on 3 sides. Doors and windows are all custom made of chestnut with its rich caramel colour, the preferred wood of the region. The main floor consists of a living/dining room with fireplace, a kitchen, a powder room and two doors to the garden. Upstairs, via an old stone staircase (which was formerly outside but enclosed many years ago), is the bedroom with a queen-size bed. At the end of this floor is a wee staircase up to the loft above containing another bed. A shower is tucked under the stairs. This small and cosy house is suitable for 2 people or a couple. Whoever uses the loft must be agile!
The kitchen is well equipped and was completely renovated 2 years ago with many of the “mod cons” including a washing machine. As well as a telephone, there is a hair dryer, an iron and an ironing board for your use. The house is well supplied with books, both fiction and those about Anghiari and other places you might consider for day trips. Il Nido has a private garden, a rarity in a Medieval village, hidden from the street behind its own stone wall and private door. The front door to the house is off the garden, ensuring privacy.
